Development Worker
Our community development worker, Morvyn Sanderson, recently travelled with ten young people to Lesotho, with Darlington Borough Council's youth service, to look at HIV and Aids education schemes for youngsters working in schools and the wider community.
The young people, who call themselves Raising Awareness In Darlington (Raid) spent ten days with the Youth Against HIV group, from Lesotho.
Now back in Darlington, the group is hoping to share its experiences with other young people and community groups.
Mr Sanderson said: "It was a fabulous opportunity and a great privilege for us to be able to take part in a trip to Africa.
"We learned a lot about the work they do over there to combat HIV and Aids and met so many people that have been affected by the pandemic.
"It was an inspiration to the young people and myself and we have a huge amount to share with communities in Darlington.
"We will be launching a film and workshops in the near future, in order to tell the story and also to engage our residents in health issues. We hope everyone will be keen to participate."
Community Cafe
A family group is opening Cafe North, at Northlands Church, tomorrow, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
Child facilities will be available, so whether you want a quick cuppa before picking the kids up from school or to rest your weary legs on the way back from shopping, you will have the perfect surroundings.
We're also looking for volunteers, so if you can spare a few hours once a month, please get in touch.
Youth Issues
The youth club has reopened, at Northlands, after a short break.
It will now be in the main hall, each Monday. The group has a new healthy eating project.
The recent football competition, held at North Park, was a great success, with 80 young people taking part. North Park did really well and finished fourth.
DIARY DATES
* THE next North Road Community Partnership Meeting is tonight, at 6pm, at Longfield School.
* North Park Fun Day is on Sunday, between 1pm and 4.30pm.
