LADY Godiva took to the streets of Darlington at the weekend to highlight the campaign for an elected mayor.
The stunt, in the town's market place, was organised by the Mayor for Darlington Group, to show how one person can make a difference.
The horse, Murphy, was ridden by Jane Bowman, accompanied by members of the group bearing placards in support of the referendum.
Brian Parkinson, from the Mayor for Darlington group, said the Lady Godiva myth was a good way of highlighting their cause.
He said: "We believe it's a big business, running a town, and we feel that the current cabinet have run into a lot of problems, such as the pedestrianisation of High Row, schools and the Tesco plan. It's continuous problems, so a change is needed.
"An elected mayor is much better, as they will represent the electorate."
