HELICOPTER patrols will betaking place over Darlington this week to check the overhead network of power cables.
Engineers from CE Electric UK, the region's electricity distributor, will be monitoring the power lines in the patrols from Durham Tess Valley Airport.
The patrols are expected to last three weeks and will target 1,000 kilometres of high voltage lines in the Darlington and Durham areas.
Gary Bartholomew, networks inspection manager for the company, said: "Adverse weather earlier in the year prevented our staff from completing these patrols."
Bosses have assured farmers that, although the patrols will fly low, pilots will try to avoid areas populated with livestock.
