YOUTH projects in Darlington took part in an It's A Knockout-style competition last week, as part of the Street Safe Action Week.

Young people, aged between seven and 18, took part in a variety of challenges alongside a team of staff from Darlington Borough Council's youth service.

Children from Red Hall, Branksome, Firthmoor and Bishopton, along with a group of young carers, took part in the day, which has been declared a success.

The youngsters were split into teams and completed challenges, including tug of war, a wellie race and obstacle course.

Red Hall Partnership play development co-ordinator Sarah Small said: "The children worked really well together as they had the chance to enjoy the tasks and meet new people."

The event, hosted by the youth service and Connexions, was aimed at giving young people from around Darlington something to do during the summer holidays.

A spokeswoman for the council said: "It was a great day and the weather was fantastic. All the young people really enjoyed themselves."
