When Dave Penney was in the midst of his summer recruitment drive it was inevitable that there were going to be casualties, and it's now difficult to believe that David Stockdale was intended to be one of them.
Since the end of last season 12 players have left the club and Stockdale was set to leave on a temporary basis.
Penney's intention was to sign two new keepers and send the 21-year-old out on loan.
But Penney's failure to sign a second keeper combined with Andy Oakes' red card on the first day of the season has handed Stockdale an opportunity that he has taken - literally - with both hands, culminating with Saturday's penalty save.
The keeper also made an equally impressive save in the second half to ensure Quakers maintained their decent defensive record.
"There's no chance of him going out on loan now," said Penney. "It's great that he's here with us still because he's been excellent ever since he has come into the team.
"We had wanted him to play games because we felt the only way he was going to get better was by playing competitive league games and not reserve football.
"I think people might have criticised him last season when Sam Russell was injured, but he was playing behind a poor defence at that time.
"He's got Alan White and Steve Foster ahead of him and they take some of the pressure off the keeper.
"Andy Oakes is fully aware of the situation. Usually, if a player is playing well then he keeps the shirt."
