A CLOUD of smoke billowed over Bishop Auckland town centre yesterday lunchtime after two fires were started within yards of each other.
Smoke could be seen in Newgate Street from two blazes in the Adelaide Street area.
Fire crews put out a skip fire and a blaze on a pile of wood nearby.
An onlooker said: "The firemen got there very quickly."
