STAFF from a nursing home teamed up with firefighters for an adrenaline-filled charity afternoon.
Workers from St George's Hall and St George's Lodge, in Middleton St George, near Darlington, braved the rapids at the Tees Barrage yesterday.
The white-water rafting event was organised to raise money for a residents' fund at the homes, which pays for treats for residents, including electric toothbrushes and weekend breaks.
Organiser Margaret Penman, of Orchard Care Homes, said: "It's been an amazing day.
"Everybody had so much fun, although I think the residents enjoyed seeing us all getting a soaking a little too much."
The event raised more than £1,000 for the fund, which included a donation from North Yorkshire Fire Service.
Firefighters from Northallerton station took part in the event.
