STUDENTS put on a colourful show using drums and feathers, to celebrate the end of a school year and the start of the next.

Pupils from Beaumont Hill School and Technology College dazzled family, friends and carers with the performance.

The school took over the main hall at Darlington Education Village for an awards ceremony and record of achievement presentation.

Children performed African dance and song, played drums and presented a pictorial representation of the year.

They were presented with awards to recognise attendance, academic, sporting and conservation achievements.

Joanne Smith, assistant head of key stage three, said: "They have received these awards for some very hard work.

"The presentation was designed to show what they have enjoyed so far and what they are looking forward to next year. Staff and pupils have worked extremely hard this year and this is our opportunity to acknowledge that effort."

Dame Dela Smith, executive director of the Education Village, said: "One of the very best things about working in Beaumont Hill is recognising achievements large and small. We are very proud of all our pupils."

Students also received the John Muir Award for Conservation for their work at the innovative forest school.

Children visited a conservation area six miles from the school on a weekly basis.
