PLANS for a waste transfer station on an industrial unit could be approved today.
Residents near the current wood recycling unit in Dodsworth Street, Albert Hill, Darlington, have objected to the plans.
They said the site currently created lots of noise and dust, and there were concerns about access to the unit.
Five letters of objection and a petition signed by 38 people has been sent to the borough council.
One complainant said the land was the site of a fire in March 2005.
The application is to replace the unit with a waste transfer station for glass, ceramics, carpets, metals and other green waste to be brought in alongside current waste, from homes, factories and building and recycling companies.
Planning officers have recommended the plans be approved subject to conditions, including limiting the use to 8am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, as well as preventing the burning of waste on the site.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place at 1.30pm in the town hall.
