BOOKS on prescription are being offered to people in a pilot project to improve their mental health.
A series of self-help publications are being made available to residents with mood issues thanks to an initiative run by Darlington Primary Care Trust (PCY) and the library on Crown Street.
The books are a psychological boost as they help people take control of their situation.
Darlington PCT mental health improvement specialist Vicky Waterston said: "People can feel isolated when they develop mental health issues. Seeing similar conditions written in a book and advice on how to deal with them can really help.
"The books have been carefully chosen by health professionals. They can empower patients as they are able to manage their own conditions."
