YOUNG people across Darlington are being given a chance to have their say on issues affecting them with the launch of a drop-in surgery.

The monthly Young Persons’ Surgery will be hosted by Councillor Cyndi Hughes, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, who is keen to hear from young people about what matters to them.

She said: “It’s important that young people have a chance to have their say on things that are happening in Darlington. I’m keen to encourage them to take an active part in their community and will also be happy to help with individual queries or problems.”

“I was heartened to see that during the last general election there was an increase in voting among 18 to 24-year-olds – with turnout at its highest rate for 25 years nationally – and I’m keen to build on that and encourage more young people across Darlington to take a more active role in what happens here now and in the future.

The first surgery will be held on Saturday, September 16, from 11am until noon at the Dolphin Centre.

Adults are welcome to accompany their young relative at the surgery.
