A PLAN to raise standards in schools and the wellbeing of children will be considered by Darlington councillors this week.

The Children and Young Person's Plan sets out the council's proposals to make sure children get the benefits of council services.

The plan states the importance of parents, carers and support through agencies.

It also includes additional support at key times, such as ante-natal support or help during teenage years.

The plan also puts importance on children staying in school, or finding employment or training when they leave education.

Councillor Chris McEwan, cabinet member for children's services, said: "This plan is very important.

"It sets out how we are going to help children and their families grow, how we will educate them, look after them and support them, so they can be happy, healthy and successful adults."

The report will be looked at by the council's cabinet tonight at 5pm.

If the plan gets the go-ahead, it will go to the full council for approval and be sent to Ofsted.
