TOWN CENTRE
THE planters on High Row, Darlington, may need modifying.
The fact is that the planters are level with the pavement at the High Row side, but have a sheer drop at the other side which faces Prebend Row, which means that there is nothing to prevent a lively toddler, an older child or even a grown person, from running along them and accidentally falling off.
This is just one of the concerns made known to me, in the recent people's survey about changes to Darlington town centre, and it worries me a lot. I feel this matter should be attended to immediately in order to avoid an accident.
I personally would advocate the return of the original balustrades at the front and sides of the planters to prevent potential danger, but even if the balustrades cannot be put there, some form of attractive, but protective, barrier should be added to the planters just as a safety measure. - Beryl Hankin, Guru Boutique, Blackwellgate, Darlington.
