BUDDING climbers will soon be able get to grips with a new challenge.
A climbing boulder at Eastbourne Sports Complex, in Darlington, is almost complete and should be ready for the summer holidays.
It introduces youngsters to the sport and local pupils were consulted on its design.
Plans to use the boulder in summer activities have been put into place by Zone Active and Darlington Borough Council's Sports Development team.
It was paid for with £50,000 from Barclays' Spaces for Sport scheme, and Darlington Borough Council, backed by Groundwork West Durham.
Mike Crawshaw, the council's head of leisure, said: "This climbing wall will provide a great opportunity for people of all ages to try a new sport. Our staff are now fully trained and will be working with the voluntary sector and other groups to help people enjoy this exciting new equipment."
