A MAN lost his job and his driving licence when he got behind the wheel after drinking two pints of beer.
Christopher John Nesham, of Railway Terrace, Hurworth Place, near Darlington, was stopped by police after a Saturday night out in April.
The 24-year-old gave a reading of 51 micrograms of alcohol in 100 ml of breath - the legal limit is 35 micrograms.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of drink-driving at Darlington Magistrates' Court.
The court heard that Nesham will now lose his job in the motors industry.
Graham Hunsley, mitigating, said: "On this night, he had one pint, then a soft drink, then a second pint.
"Some people can drink that amount and not be over the limit. I'm aware of people who have passed tests having consumed more.
"This young man thought he was safe and was staying within the limit. Be that as it may, he was over the limit, and he will now lose his job."
Nesham was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £200 with £60 costs.
