PUPILS from Polam Hall girls' school have enjoyed an educational trip to Paris.
The girls, aged nine to 11, visited Notre Dame Cathedral, the Pompidou Centre and the Eiffel Tower. They made the trip from Darlington by coach.
The first day of the trip included a whistle-stop coach tour of Paris and visits to the Arc de Triomphe.
They later put their language abilities to the test with an afternoon of haggling at the city's open air market.
Their cultural getaway was completed with a night-time visit to the Eiffel Tower.
The girls will put their skills to use during the coming weeks by running a French Cafe evening, serving traditional Parisian fare to visitors and hosting performances entirely in French.
Junior School headteacher Angela Foster said: "It is vital to us that we expand each individual's outlook, not only through the curriculum but also in the extracurricular activities.
"All of our pupils are taught French from reception upwards but taking these girls to Paris has really helped them get to grips with the language."
