STUDENTS got a taste of life in the media last week when they had the chance to quiz Middlesbrough Football Club star Stuart Downing.

Ten students in years 7 and 10 at Hurworth Maths and Computing College were invited to a Sky Sports News fans' forum at Blackwell Grange Hotel, Darlington, last Wednesday.

The event was televised the following day, with the students, all Middlesbrough fans, questioning the England winger.

They were accompanied by Ann Kennedy, assistant head teacher, a keen Middlesbrough supporter.

She said: "The students really did enjoy it. With the Sky Sports cameras there, they got an insight into the way the media works and at the end, Stuart was happy to spend a long time signing shirts and books.

"I managed to resist temptation to get my shirt signed though."

Students chosen were Thomas Gresham, Stuart Read, Matthew York, Jonathan Snowden, John Chapman, Ryan Colling, Jake Laverick, Chris Chapman, Sam Binns and Katie Metcalfe.

The event was sponsored by Nationwide Building Society, and was one of several interviews with England football players around the country.
