A FRIENDLY greyhound is in search of a new home.

Animal sanctuary workers are appealing for a family to take in two-year-old Jake whose previous owners gave him up when they separated.

During the three months he has been living with a foster family, he has become a popular pet, but needs a permanent home.

Susan Betts, of Shildon, said: "He settled in quickly, is a beautiful dog with a lovely nature and will make someone a great pet."

Pauline Wilson, of the National Animal Sanctuary Support League (NASSL), said: "He gets on well with other dogs and older children. He has a lovely, endearing personality.

"The people who had him before loved him but could no longer keep him which, sadly, is a familiar story.

"Greyhounds are one of the nicest and easiest breeds of dog to look after. They can be lazy, crafty, love their food, like going for runs but don't need as much walking as people think, and love to be loved."
