A MULTI-CULTURAL football scheme will culminate in a "World Cup" at Darlington's TFM Arena.
Young footballers in Darlington have been training since April for the event, which will take place on Saturday, June 7.
More than 140 young boys have been going to weekly training sessions, which have been run by coaches from the football club's Football in the Community scheme. Event organiser Iris Pichl-Mordue said the sessions were an opportunity for children from all backgrounds to come together.
Chinese, Bangladeshi and Mauritian children are among the nationalities represented.
Girls are also being encouraged to join new weekly training sessions, which take place at the Eastbourne Sports Complex, in Darlington.
Girls aged eight to 11 are being encouraged to take part after a lack of interest from older boys.
Mrs Pichl-Mordue said the sessions could have massive benefits.
She added: "The girls are just football mad.
"They are very keen and are good footballers as well.
"It gives them a chance to mix with other cultures, to get fitter and to build their confidence.
"But above all, it's about having fun."
The training is sponsored by Local Network Fund, Sport Relief, Fair Share and Darlington Borough Council.
The training will last for another 18 weeks, with the boys playing in the tournament at the TFM arena.
