Darlington manager Dave Penney will not be reunited with Mickey Lewis after his former assistant at Doncaster Rovers joined Oxford United's backroom staff.
Penney had been expected to bring Lewis to Darlington having worked alongside him when they led Doncaster to a club record eighth-place finish in League One in 2005/06.
When Penney joined Darlington last October, Martin Gray was promoted from the youth set-up to become assistant manager.
Lewis, a former crowd favourite at Oxford, has returned to become the club's youth team coach.
The 41-year-old previously held the post before teaming up with Penney at Doncaster having played in the same Oxford team during the 1990s.
