RISING bollards are to be installed in Darlington town centre to restrict traffic during the day.
As the Pedestrian Heart project nears completion, from tomorrow the bollards will become operational in Skinnergate/Blackwellgate and Northgate/Crown Street.
The bollard in Blackwellgate will be raised at 7.30am and lowered at midnight.
The one in Northgate will be raised at 7.30am and lowered at 10pm.
The bollard in Duke Street has been operating since last August, and restricts access between 10am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10.30am to 5pm on Sundays.
Access outside these times will be arranged via intercom connection to the closed-circuit television (CCTV) centre.
Deliveries are allowed only between 5pm and 10am in the town centre.
Delivery vehicles must leave Blackwellgate, High Row, Northgate and Prospect Place before 10am, but can stay in Duke Street and Skinnergate until the delivery is complete.
Emergency services, Royal Mail, Parcel Force, bullion vehicles and residents will all continue to have access via an intercom connection to the town's CCTV centre.
