STUDENTS of Carmel College celebrated another year of sporting achievement – with the assistance of an international sporting star.
Manchester City footballer Jill Scott, originally from Sunderland, has more than 70 caps for England and entered the history books last weekend as part of the first England Women’s team to play at Wembley.
However she had earlier taken time out of her busy training schedule to help Carmel with their 14th Sports Presentation Evening, presenting the awards and giving an inspirational speech to the assembled audience of over 300.
Simon Hannaford, curriculum leader for PE and Carmel, said: “I was delighted that Jill could present the awards as she is a local girl who has excelled at her sport.
“She is such a positive role model, especially to our girls.”
The event took place in the JC Hall on campus at the end of the academic year and celebrated a wide range of exceptional achievement by a number of students.
Mr Hannaford added: “Carmel sports have had another excellent year; they have competed in town, county, regional and national championships, winning over 60 trophies.
“The sporting talent in the college just gets better each year – long may it continue.”
