STUDENTS are looking to the days, weeks and months as they strive to raise funds for school projects with a specially created calendar.
DSMS 2015 celebrates the work of young artists and poets at Darlington School of Mathematics and Science.
Proceeds from calendar sales will go towards the costs of new stage lighting as the academy expands performing arts and the establishment of a combined cadet force, one of the first in the region to be hosted by a state school.
Students from years seven to 11 contributed to the attractive calendar with each month featuring artwork and poetry.
Year 9 student Adam Plumb, who provided the artwork for December, said: “There is some really great work in the calendar and I was very pleased to be part of that project with my acrylic view of the countryside.”
Headteacher Calvin Kipling added: “The calendar project has been invaluable on so many levels. It offered the chance to publish the art and poetry of our students and has also encompassed an element of entrepreneurship and business acumen.
“Offering an outlet for students’ creativity is essential to a balanced education and the funds will be spent wisely on improving our staging and setting up a combined cadet force.”
