A FIRST World War remembrance project created by the British W oodcarvers Association is on display at a building society.
The national project has seen more than 40 members of the association submit carvings that commemorate the centenary of the start of the conflict.
The carvings are on display to the public at Darlington Building Society, on Tubwell Row, until Thursday, November 13, having previously been on display at the Green Howards Museum, in Richmond, and the Phoenix Centre, in Catterick Garrison.
The Mayor of Darlington Gerald Lee opened the exhibition, which features the carvers' own interpretations of the war.
Colin Fyfe, chief executive of Darlington Building Society, said: “We are very proud to be able to display this wonderful exhibition, which uses woodcarving as an art form.
“All the pieces are very different and give an interesting and very visual interpretation of events 100 years ago. I hope that as many people as possible will call in to have a look and perhaps take a few moments to remember those who went to war but never returned.”
The British Woodcarvers Association has three clubs in the North East - Coniscliffe Carving Club, Cleveland Carving Club and Ryedale Carving Club.
