AN application to build residential flats for over-55s that was pulled by the developers hours before going before a council planning committee has been resubmitted with slight amendments.
The proposed development of 46 flats on wasteland off Woodland Road, next to the Cockerton Band and Musical Institute, in Darlington, provoked a number of complaints from residents in nearby properties, who fear a loss of privacy, increased traffic congestion and parking issues.
The application fromPartner Construction Ltd to build two three-storey blocks facing on to Woodland Road was due to be debated by Darlington Borough Council's planning committee in September but was withdrawn at the last minute.
A revised application will be considered by the committee at its meeting on Wednesday, November 19, which has an amended layout and landscaping plan, which has created additional parking for six cars on land currently within the curtilage of a neighbouring property on Woodland Road.
Following the submission of the updated proposals a further eight letters of objection were sent to planning officials, which note that the existing concerns about the development have not been resolved by the changes.
A new letter of support, from Cockerton Band and Institute, has also been submitted, which states: "We feel that the application can only be good for the Cockerton village, at the moment the first thing people see of Cockerton is a large overgrown derelict site.
"The planned building will attract the type of people that will use Cockerton Village and hopefully may give reason to prolong the use of the library. We hope the planning application goes ahead, it could be a missed opportunity for the Cockerton Village and we could end up with another shopping unit."
The development has been recommended for approval by council planning officers.
