DANCERS from a Darlington studio are celebrating after beating competition from hundreds of hopefuls to win world titles.
Twenty dancers from Dance Wright Studio, in Darlington, travelled to Blackpool Winter Gardens last month to take part in the World Freestyle Dance Championships.
Scores of the group’s dancers made the finals and semi-finals, with 14-year-old Amalia Britton going on to be named world champion in both the freestyle and slow categories.
She also scooped the world title in the pairs category, together with her partner 15-year-old Olivia Moore.
Studio owner Darrien Wright said he was over the moon with his group’s performance.
Mr Wright, who won the BBC show Strictly Dance Fever with partner Hollie Robinson in 2006 said: “It is such an amazing venue and the fact that I have competed there before made it even more special.
“The studio is coming up to five-years-old and we are having such a good year this year.”
Members of Dance Wright Studio are preparing to take part in a mass dance in Darlington market square as part of Darlington Dance Festival later this month.
