A DARLINGTON man was too drunk to remember smashing car windows to steal CDs and DVDs.
Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday that Lee Fox was seen with his legs dangling out of a Volkswagen car parked in Darlington after he had smashed its window to get in.
He stole CDs and DVDs from the vehicle and also put a brick through the window of a second car, but did not find anything to steal from it.
When Fox, of Victoria Road, Darlington, was later arrested and taken into police custody, he threw his empty meal tray down the cell toilet and blocked it.
The court was told that 41-year-old Fox could not remember the incidents, but he had cuts and blood on his hands from the smashed windows and was carrying the stolen items rolled up in a car seat cover.
In court he admitted theft from a motor vehicle, attempted theft and criminal damage on May 22.
He also pleaded guilty to stealing packs of steak worth £20 from a Darlington Asda on April 16.
Magistrates placed him under 12-month supervision and ordered him to pay a total of £370 in compensation.
