A VILLAGE post office is to extend its opening hours following a programme of modernisation.
Middleton St George Post Office, based inside the Londis shop, will offer an extra 52 hours of postal services running alongside its retail operation.
The post office section is set to be refurbished and will have three serving counters, including the retail counter.
Once complete, the shop and post office will be open between 6am and 10pm seven days a week, with post office services available full time.
The business will close for refurbishment on Friday, March 7, and will reopen to customers on Monday, March 24.
Customers are asked to use Post Offices on Yarm Road and Darlington town centre during the closure.
Post Office area manager Anne Clarke said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to the people of Middleton St George and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
