A SCOUT HUT has been completely transformed, thanks to a group of keen youngsters.
A team of Prince's Trust volunteers spent weeks renovating the hut on Neasham Road in Darlington as part of a community project.
Twelve people from Darlington, aged between 16 and 23, spent time fundraising to buy tools and paint before working to transform the hut.
They installed new bathroom and kitchen units as well as flooring, gave the premises a fresh lick of paint and tidied the overgrown garden.
Course leader, Katrine Davidson, said the project had taught the team the importance of community spirit.
She said: “They chose this project because it benefited young people. The hut will still be used by scouts but also as a place where youths can go rather than hang around on the streets.
“The reaction has been really positive, the scouts are very pleased and are excited to start using the hut again.
“We’ve had help from the local PCSO and the community has really come together to help – we’ve had a lot of support from businesses who have donated units.
“The Prince's Trust students have really come together as a team and have worked very hard and realised just what community spirit is all about.”
