A MUSIC group aimed at people living with dementia will be launched by the Alzheimer’s Society in Darlington next month.

The charity’s Tees Valley team is hoping people with dementia, their carers and relatives will head to the Singing for the Brain sessions that will come to Darlington for the first time on Friday, March 14, at 2pm, at St Cuthbert’s Church Centre, Market Place.

Singing for the Brain is a programme developed by the Alzheimer’s Society for people with memory problems and organisers are relishing the chance to bring music therapy to people with dementia in and around the town.

The new initiative will get under way thanks to the support of the Darlington Clinical Commissioning Group, which has provided the charity with 12-months’ funding.

The fortnightly sessions will be led by Wearside-based singer Kayley Ede who will deliver a varied programme of vocal, rhythmic and gentle physical exercise and dance, along with songs from different eras and styles.
