A NEW footpath linking Darlington to Hurworth could be created by the council.
The proposed route runs from Skerne Way to Snipe Lane, using an underpass near the river Skerne and connecting with a public footpath across a golf course and farmland towards Hurworth.
A consultation period on the proposal by Darlington Borough Council ended last week and officials will review the feedback over the next few weeks before making a decision on whether to go ahead with the plan.
Hurworth Parish Council supports the proposal and ward councillor Joe Kelley said it would benefit the hundreds of children who attend Hurworth School but live in Darlington.
He added: “I think it is important to put out the right message that we do want to connect with Darlington.”
