COUNCILLORS are supporting residents’ concerns over plans to demolish a Victorian house in Hurworth Place and replace it with six houses.

At the latest meeting of Hurworth Parish Council, Hurworth Place resident Sue Williams expressed her fears that the proposal to replace Croft House on Tees View with six detached homes could contribute to flooding problems in the area.

Her concerns were echoed by resident Susan Dell who added that in her view the applicants, Broadacres Housing Association, had not provided enough information about the development which would occupy a flood plain.

She said: “Our concern as residents is the impact that is going to have on our houses.”

Ward councillor Martin Swainston said he supports residents’ objections to the plans and has raised the matter to go before Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee.

Hurworth Parish Council also agreed to write a letter to Darlington Borough Council generally supporting the objectors’ concerns and requesting more detail on the proposals so they could be assessed more thoroughly.
