ROMANS roamed the streets of Darlington as school pupils travelled through time this morning (Friday, February 7).
Roman legionary Magnus Motus led youngsters to Mount Pleasant Primary School as a themed walk got underway.
Schools across Darlington and Durham had competed to win the chance to roam with Romans as part of MEGA Motion’s Travelling Through Time initiative.
A story written by a ten-year-old pupil about a trip to school with Julius Caesar netted Mount Pleasant their themed walk.
The pupils were accompanied by members of Team Local Motion as they strode to school.
The walk was the fourth of nine themed walks planned by the team, who work to encourage children across the country to walk to school.
The MEGA Motion campaign aims to get as many pupils and parents as possible to make healthy choices and swap cars for more active and sustainable transport.
Councillor Andy Scott, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, said: “Exercise is essential for a healthy lifestyle.
“By walking, cycling or scooting to school, and building activity into your daily routine, you are helping your child to make healthier travel choices that will benefit them long into the future.”
