RESIDENTS in a busy town centre street have urged Darlington Borough Council to drop plans for no-parking zones outside their houses.
People living in Grange Road are complaining that no-waiting restrictions planned for the alleyway behind their homes will leave them with nowhere to park.
"We don't have a driveway or a garage, so the back lane is the only place for us to leave our car," said resident Karen Talbot.
"At the moment we can park up and get straight into our back yard.
"The current system has worked for years and years, I don't know why the council wants to change it.
"We have been thinking about putting our house up for sale, but nobody's going to buy a house with no parking space.
"Everyone I have spoken to is against this."
The borough council has delivered letters to Grange Road homes, outlining the proposals and inviting residents to comment before January 26.
A spokesman for the council said: "The Grange Road parking scheme is out to public consultation at the moment.
"We are consulting with residents, and people have until January 26 to give us their views.
"We would like to hear from all residents."
