A NEGLECTED woodland walk could be cleaned up by a new community group.
The Friends of the Community group hope to restore the walk that runs around the grounds of the Hurworth Grange Community Centre.
The path is clear at some points, but overgrown in others. The group wants to clear the path, plant bulbs, and install seats.
It also hoped to design a new water feature around the pond and include an area for youngsters.
A meeting was held at the Grange on Wednesday to discuss the plans.
George Lawman, who chaired the meeting, said: "This is a good piece of land that needs utilising.
"This is a community project. The wood belongs to the people of Hurworth and it should be accessible to all."
The Woodland Walk project first started a year ago, but stalled.
"We want to get the ball rolling again, and kick things off," said Mr Lawman.
The Forestry Commission is helping with the project, but the group is also looking for volunteers.
Anyone who can help clear the overgrowth, donate bulbs, or give time in other ways, is asked to contact Mr Lawman on 01325-722123.
The group is also looking for businesses to donate equipment, time and money.
