BEAMISH Museum is bringing a touring collection of artefacts and photographs to the Crown Street Library, in Darlington, on Friday.
Items to be shown will include mining and domestic items from the 19th and 20th Centuries, as well as old photographs of Darlington.
Members of the public will be able to examine the items at close quarters and the Beamish Museum collections and access staff will be on hand to answer questions.
A static display will remain at the library for a month, although members of the public will not be able to handle the items on show during this time.
Councillor Lee Vasey, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for leisure services, said: "This event will really bring history to life and gives an excellent opportunity for people to get an insight into the region's rich heritage."
The museum team will also have information about volunteering at the museum, as well as about the free, behind-the-scenes tours available to the public.
It will visit venues outside of the museum and deliver free talks and activities for groups, all based around objects from the collections.
The event will take place between noon and 5pm.
