PEOPLE living with brain injury will have access to new services following a charity launch next month.
Headway, the brain injury charity, is launching a branch to cover Darlington and the surrounding district.
Among the speakers at the event will be Giles Hudson, chair of Headway Darlington and District.
He had to learn to eat, walk and talk again following a car crash 27 years ago that left him with a brain injury. He will give a talk on his experiences, and explain how his and his family’s lives have been affected by his injury.
Mr Hudson said: “Brain injury is invisible, so people automatically assume you are ok. But living with a brain injury can be extremely challenging, and it’s vital that help and support is available for those who need it.
“Headway Darlington and District will aim to offer a whole range of services for people living with brain injury and their families, to enable them to really get the most out of life.”
Other speakers include Jonathan Kelly, brain injury co-ordinator at James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
The free event takes place on Wednesday, June 26, at Teesside University’s Darlington campus. There will be a buffet lunch, tea and coffee, and a charity raffle. Registration is at 9.30am, and the first speaker is at 10am. Lunch will be served at 1pm.
