PEOPLE taking part in free Lindisfarne Gospel-inspired art workshops at a Darlington arts centre this weekend could see their work go on display at Durham University.
The course is taking place at the Bridge Centre for Visual Arts, in Yarm Road, on Saturday (May 25).
Work produced during the session could be included in the university’s Palace Green Library display.
The Lindisfarne Gospels is a manuscript of the highest quality and one of the most important works of European art of the first millennium, a unique combination of different European artistic and Christian traditions and cultures.
The Lindisfarne Gospels will be on show in a unique exhibition in Durham University’s Palace Green Library from 1 July to 30 September.
The free workshops at The Bridge’s are being led by professional artist Vicky Holbrough and offer participants the chance to design and create Celtic sculptures in plaster using various techniques and style and imagery from the Lindisfarne Gospels.
Some of the work created on the day will be exhibited as part of the Lindisfarne Gospels Durham exhibition at Durham University’s Palace Green Library this summer.
There are four workshops at The Bridge on Saturday, open to adults and children over eight, who must be accompanied by an adult.
Each session can accommodate eight participants.
Sessions take place at 10am to 11am; 11am to noon; 12.30pm to1.30pm and 2.30pm 3.30pm.
Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
