PUPILS from a Darlington primary school sang their way to lessons during a themed walk.
Youngsters from St Bede’s RC Primary School took part in the walk on Friday (May 24), led by members of Darlington Borough Council’s Local Motion team.
‘Tom Jones’ led the pop stars themed walk.
Throughout October of last year, Darlington pupils took part in a competition to win a themed Friday walk for their school and the Popstars idea was thought up by youngsters at St. Bede’s.
The walks form a key part of the council’s Mega Motion campaign, to encourage as many pupils and parents as possible to leave their cars behind every Friday and walk, cycle or scoot to school.
Councillor David Lyonette, cabinet member for transport, said: “Results of the latest School Travel Survey, show that children in Darlington are travelling to school more sustainably by means such as walking, cycling and scooting.
“Friday walks are a great way for families ditch the car for a day and get their recommended 60 active minutes.”
Councillor Andy Scott, cabinet member for health, said: “By encouraging children to choose active forms of travel, they can choose healthier methods of getting to school.
“Setting children off on a healthier path now is the perfect grounding for developing, healthy, environmentally-aware adults of the future."
More walks are lined up between now and July including Mr Men, Doctor Who and the Daleks.
