A METHODIST church has raised nearly £1,500 by organising a family fun day and plans to use part of it to build a well in a village in Kenya.
Hurworth Methodist Church, with its 186th anniversary on Sunday, has collected £1,491 from about 250 people who took part in family games and activities at Hurworth Primary School on Saturday (May 18) afternoon.
During the event, there were games such as yo-yo, bouncy-castle and hook-a-duck. Participants could also buy crafts, cakes or Father’s Day presents.
As part of Christian Aid Week, £327 of the money raised would go towards building a well in a village community in Kenya.
Another part of the money would be used for funding youth and children activities held by the church.
Andrew Stobart, the minister of the church, said: “We felt it was important not only for ourselves, but also for less well-off people by helping them to have clean water.
“We are grateful to everybody that helped.”
The amount raised at the weekend is an improvement on last year’s family fun day, which collected £1,225.
