THE council held its annual general meeting and Leo Nugent was re-elected as chairman.

Trevor Chaytor-Norris was elected as vice-chairman and Coun Nugent, Coun Chaytor-Norris and Coun Penny Longstaff were elected to the Croft and Dalton Burial Board.

County council – Michael Heseltine has been re-elected as North Yorkshire County Councillor for the Richmondshire North area.

Police matters – The council has been awarded £500 from the North Yorkshire Police Disposal of Property Fund. It was decided the council will buy 25 SmartWater kits – an identifying marker which help the police track stolen property. These will be given to residents on a first come first serve basis.

Croft Hotel – The new owner of The Croft Hotel is not from the area and has asked to meet with the parish council and local groups to get involved with the community. Clerk Geoff Bosworth will write a reply accepting his invitation and a meeting will be arranged. Councillor Daniel Pyrah and Coun Nugent will attend the meeting.

Richmondshire Communities Fund – District councillor, Jane Parlour, told the meeting there is a grant available to community projects through the Richmondshire Communities Fund. A notice will be put in the village newsletter asking people if they have a project they would like to put forward.

Floral tubs – Two new tubs are needed for flowers outside the village hall as the old ones are looking in a bad way.

Community group – A new group, called Croft Community Group, has been set up in the village. They will hold monthly markets and profits from each market will go towards a nominated charity or community group. Stalls are £20 for one market, or £45 for three markets.

Double yellow lines – Coun Parlour said there had been a number of complaints from residents after double yellow lines were painted on Monkend Terrace, opposite the church. She said the decision to paint them had been made back in 2006, although residents did not want them. The county council has only just painted them on and have apologised for the delay.

Speeding traffic – Concerns have been raised about the speed of traffic coming into Croft under the bridge on the Northallerton Road from Dalton-on-Tees.

Coun Parlour said she is planning on setting up a petition to get the county council to reduce the speed limit as it is currently only an advisory 40mph zone.
