THE council held its annual general meeting and John Weighell was re-elected as chairman, marking his 16th year in the position.
Derek Dodwell was also elected as vice-chairman.
Highways – Coun Weighell reported he had been trying to get in contact with Andy Casey at Darlington Borough Council to arrange a time to erect two lampposts for speed monitoring signs as Hurworth Parish Council has agreed to let them borrow theirs.
Northumbria in Bloom – Coun Weighell thanked everyone for their support in this year’s Northumbria in Bloom competition. He said he has been pleasantly surprised at the amount of interest the village has taken, and is looking to organise some projects for children.
The next round of judging will take place on July 10.
Police matters – Police Community Support Officer, John Angus, has carried out a speed check in the village.
During a Farmwatch operation a car was stopped for having a broken headlight, and checks revealed the driver also had no tax, no insurance and was wanted for a burglary in North Yorkshire.
Flood defences – Some paving slabs at the new flood defences have moved.
Planning applications – Councillors approved a planning application for 4 Dibdale Road for a single-story side extension.
The council has also received a planning application for two detached houses with double garages at 49 Teesway. A number of objections have been received and councillors said the sewage pumping station would not be able to cope with the demand the houses would put on it. Councillors objected to the plans.
Dog waste – Coun Dodwell said there is an ongoing problem with dog waste on Dibdale Road.
Next meeting – Monday, June 3.
