A YOUNG fencer has stormed to victory after being named the regional champion for his age group.
Max Clyde, a student at Hummersknott Academy, in Darlington, has been named the North-East under 14 regional foil champion and was also a quarter finalist in the Leon Paul national competition.
The 14-year-old began fencing two years ago when he took part in a summer taster session at Eastbourne Sports Complex and later joined Darlington Street Swords Fencing Club.
As well as fencing, he competes at regional level in trampolining with his club, High Voltage Trampoline Club, in Bishop Auckland, and is set to take both fencing and diving as part of his PE GCSE in September.
He said: “I enjoy the challenge of trying new sports and they help keep me fit.”
