DARLINGTON wheely bin owners have been warned about leaflets being circulated by private cleaning companies.
Leaflets claiming that dirty bins may not be emptied by the council have recently been delivered to households ahead of the upcoming roll-out of the town’s new wheely bin scheme.
Some of the leaflets carry Darlington Borough Council’s logo, even though the council does not endorse any wheely bin cleaning services.
Nick Wallis, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Local Environment, said: “Residents are under no obligation to have their wheeled bins cleaned and how clean their bin is will not affect collections.
“Those who do choose to use a cleaning company should ensure they are licensed to carry out the work and be aware that the council does not endorse any one company.”
The council is now taking legal advice in relation to the leaflets.
Wheely bins are currently being delivered to homes ahead of collections beginning the week of June 17. Any resident who has not received a bin by Friday, June 7 should contact the council on 01325 388777.
