A YOUNG boxer is on top form after winning a silver medal in a national competition.
James Le Poidevin, from Darlington, took silver in the U40kg class at the National Schoolboys Boxing Championship after winning the Tyne, Tees and Wear stage of the event.
The 12-year-old student at Hummersknott Academy, in Darlington, took up the sport two years ago and trains with the Aycliffe Amateur Boxing Club.
He said he was delighted with a silver medal and enjoys boxing as it keeps him fit, teaches him different skills and has given him the opportunity to make new friends.
A school spokeswoman said: “Hummersknott Academy celebrates the achievements of all its students and is delighted at the number of students currently enjoying success at regional and national levels.”
