A SERIES of maps created by the late folk musician Bob Hattersley are now on display at Darlington Library.
Mr Hattersley, who taught at Hummersknott School for 33-years, was a popular figure in the local folk scene as a member of the band Fourum.
His love of Darlington and the Dales region led him to create a number of striking and detailed ‘Wainwright’ style maps to record the history of the area.
Over 20 of these maps are being exhibited for the first time in Darlington in the Centre for Local Studies in Crown Street Library until June 8.
The maps likely to be of particular interest to Darlington residents are the detailed studies on the founding of the Stockton and Darlington Railway and the influence of the Quaker movement and of coaching on the town’s development.
The exhibition coincides with the broadcasting of the third series of ITV’s popular programme ‘The Dales’, starting on May 13, which features Bob’s map work as well as songs by Fourum which compliment them.
Prints from the maps are being sold in aid of Kidney Cancer Research to help tackle the disease which caused Mr Hattersley’s death in 2010.
