POLICE have appealed for information after an incident in which a vehicle failed to stop.

A 22-year-old woman driving a light blue Nissan Micra was travelling along the B6279 Staindrop Road, heading into Darlington, at 7.35am on Thursday, March 21, when she was forced off the road by a van driving on the wrong side of the road.

It thought that as the Micra rounded a sweeping left hand bend, a white Transit-style van appeared on the wrong side of the road forcing the Micra driver to take avoiding action.

The Micra left the road and came to rest in heavy bushes causing damage to the vehicle. The driver was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital but was released with no serious injuries.

PC Samantha Stevens said: "It would appear the van driver was cutting the corner and encroaching on the wrong side of the road. After the Micra left the road, they did not stop to check on the condition of the victim."

It is believed the van headed in the direction of Barnard Castle.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact PC Stevens via the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 21032013-0044.
