A DARLINGTON business that revolutionised the teaching of music has won a major award.

Mix Music Education - founded by former music teacher Dan Jones - invented the JamPod, which allows students to learn music silently.

The creation, now used by 55 schools across the UK, landed the company the ‘Best Technological Resource in Music Education’ award at the prestigious Music Education Expo, held in London last week.

More than 60,000 people have experienced music lessons through the JamPod since its launch in 2010 and its creator has ambitions to introduce it to every school in the country.

Mr Jones said: “JamPod allows all to fully engage in music learning with the music the many aspire to play. Also, many students stop lessons or never start because of a fear of failure. In JamPod that perceived peer pressure is removed because no-one can hear you apart from your tutor.''

He added: “I am absolutely thrilled with the impact of the project over the last three years. To win this award alongside the calibre of our fellow nominees is just overwhelming, just being considered in the same category was an honour. This award is the perfect start to what I hope will be our breakout year.’’
