DARLINGTON students devoted a week to making a difference in their community.

The students, from the Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, hosted a series of activities as part of their ‘Make a Difference Week’.

The Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Paul Baldwin, joined them to officially open a day devoted to the celebration and appreciation of equality and diversity, while a number of community groups held stalls and demonstrations in the college throughout the week.

Representatives from the town’s Chinese community led a traditional paper cutting session and members of the Buddhist community, the Gideons, the Naturalists and others were on hand to engage students with interactive sessions.

Other activities hosted as part of the themed week included health road shows, fitness opportunities and an employment convention.

Joy Colthup, Director of Enrichment helped to organise the event.

She said: “It’s been great to have so many community and professional groups coming into college to work with students and we are grateful for their support. All involved have benefitted and there’s been a real buzz about QE with lots of fun and informative activities going on.”
