DARLINGTON residents concerned about how the introduction of wheelie bins will affect them can contact the council to arrange a home visit.

Ward councillors raised concerns at Thursday’s full council meeting that some residents were still uncertain about how to store their bins and where to put them out for collection if bin trucks cannot fit down their road – a particular issue in dense terraced streets.

Coun Nick Wallis, leisure and local environment cabinet member, said it was useful for the council to identify potential problems now before the roll-out starts in May.

He said: “I know officers have worked very hard with residents about the implications of wheelie bins.

“The whole purpose of beginning this consultation early is to avoid a panic or a series of dilemmas immediately before or after the introduction of the wheelie bins in Darlington.”

Coun Wallis added that council officials would visit concerned residents and that he would look closely at the situation on The Green in Hurworth where householders are concerned that their bins will have to be stored permanently on the public village green.

Anyone who would like to speak to the council about specific wheelie bin issues should call the council’s refuse attendance and collection officers on 01325-388777.
